Sovata Băi is the biggest settlement of the Saltregion being its one and only town along the upper course of the Târnava Mică River.
It is an internationally renowned balneary and spa resort with heliothermic salt- and freshwater lakes. The first guests coming here to relax and cure, were accomodated by families in the early times, though in 1844 a hotel was already built for then it completed.
The forming of Sovata Băi is the result of a three-step process: it all began with the Gera-resort, followed by Veress-resort (Black-Lake), then it comleted with the Illyés-resort (Bear-Lake).
